Middlewich woman admits drink drive charge

A MIDDLEWICH woman has admitted to drink driving in Northwich.

Debra Lawrence, 42, of Alexandra Road, pleaded guilty to the offence at Northwich Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Prosecuting Sue Gibson told the court how the defendant stopped by officers in her Alfa Romeo car on Halfords car park in Leicester Street on May 24.

She said: "At ten to three in the afternoon police, acting on information received, went to the car park and saw the defendant driving.

"They went to speak to her and noticed a smell of alcohol on her breath.

"She said she had had a glass of wine at Whetherspoons at lunchtime."

A breath test revealed a reading of 52 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

The court was told how Lawrence had been banned from driving for 20 months in 2004, again for driving with excess alcohol.

Defending James Bagby said: "She went out for lunch with a friend who was going to Spain and shared a bottle of wine.

"She felt fit enough to drive, but this clearly not the case"

Lawrence was banned from driving for three years, fined £100 and ordered to pay £85 costs.

Sturgess marketing manager Nichola Moore says: “We’re pleased to be able to support Leicestershire’s business community by offering new cars at preferential prices which aren’t normally available. Our intention is to run this initiative until the end of 2011 and if successful will continue into well into next year.
