News: 3DS Web Broswer Details

The impending 3DS software update will finally allow you to surf the web. Find out all the details inside below.

Earlier today Nintendo announced the details for the software update that will see the release of the much anticipated and slightly delayed eShop service for the 3DS. Alongside this the update will provide the Nintendo 3DS with a web browser and some more details about this has been unveiled.

Andriasang report that the 3DS Internet Browser will support viewing websites in 3D, as well as providing information (in Japanese) on how optimise your site if you should wish to.

The browser will be unable to support plugins such as Flash and PDFs but you can save images, including 3D images, to the console's SD card and view them in the Camera application. You can zoom into JPEGs by tapping and holding the stylus and the browser supports MPG, GIF, JPEG, PNG, BMP and ICO. The Internet Browser also allows you to save 64 favourites and upload photographs you have taken.

To be fair i have so many web ready things now with my works blackberry and my own Windows 7 phone, i probably wont use the 3DS as a browser too much though it would have been nice to have the option. So many sites now use flash or Java add ins it gets annoying waiting for them to create a special mobile version for you to view. Still...we bought the 3DS for games i guess so all relatively minor in the long run. Its all a tempory thing really, I wouldnt be at all supprised to see Adobe just making their next version of Flash (as in the creator program) export straight to HTML+Javascript. Actionscript is already pretty close to java. Adobe would probably survive the lose of Flash better then Apple will survive the uprising of Javascript/HTML games. (much harder to make excuses for blocking them...

Can I rename the icon of the format bmp to ico? | Sao Tome & Principe

N comments to their articles how to make a favicon.ico icon for your site and how to save site icon favicon in Photoshop, I ran into a common misconception that the icons for websites favicon does not necessarily save in the format ICO. Enough to keep the icon 16 × 16 format BMP, and then simply change the extension of the image with BMP to ICO. And there is supposedly no difference.

The fact that the ICO and BMP formats are completely different and differ not only in the expansion, I already wrote. Nobody forbids pogulit or read Wikipedia, to see this. But God bless her, with the theory. Let’s check in practice whether it is possible to change the extension of the pictures with BMP to ICO. First of all, I decided to make a new icon favicon.ico and save it in BMP and ICO files with Photoshop. I have a picture for the icon site, I used black and white drawing cartoon characters Doodlez.

After that I copied version will have saved in bmp format and changed its extension from BMP to ICO. In the file names listed real image format. It turned out like this:

As can be seen on the screenshot, Total Commander incorrectly displays the renamed ICO file BMP. In a standard Windows box is also not going smoothly – around the renamed BMP images appears some border:

Now let’s see how the three most popular web browser (Mozilla Firefox 3, Internet Explorer 7 and Opera 9) reflect this icon favicon.ico in the correct format and renamed the ICO ICO to BMP. First, a screen with an icon in the format ICO:

And because browsers understand renamed from BMP icon favicon.ico:

As can be seen in the second screenshot, Internet Explorer refuses to accept an icon site, renamed from the ICO BMP. A Mozilla Firefox in the title informs that the file open BMP, rather than ICO, though, and displays it correctly.

Hence the conclusion: if you want all browsers and properly display your icon, do not be lazy to keep it in the correct format ICO. Renamed from BMP icon site is not always displayed correctly. Similarly, if you just rename a photo in JPG format to GIF, most graphics viewer will show the correct picture, but renamed the image is GIF. It will simply rename the file, because converting from one graphics format to another – a process much more complicated, though, and automated than simply renaming the file.
