Credit union collects used cellphones to benefit troops
Seven branches of Navy Federal Credit Union are collecting used cellphones for Cell Phones for Soldiers, a national charity that recycles the phones for prepaid phone cards for deployed troops.
In partnership with the Hampton Roads Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America, the credit union is collecting used cellphones and smartphones and their accessories, if available. Chargers without phones, land-line phones and other electronic equipment are not accepted.
The participating branches are Norfolk Naval Station; Lake Shore Plaza, Pembroke and Oceana in Virginia Beach; Port Center in Portsmouth; Greenbrier in Chesapeake; and Magruder Crossing in Hampton.
