Powys restaurant win top award

Roger and Emma Stevens, owners of Lasswade Country House and Restaurant at Llanwrtyd Wells, have triumphed at the prestigious annual Considerate Hoteliers Association’s Hotel of the Year Awards in London.

Llanwrtyd Wells is located off the A483 south of Builth Wells.

The awards, which celebrate the best in environmental, sustainable and socially responsible performance, are open to all UK hotels and small accommodation operations.

Mr and Mrs Stevens collected a new award, Considerate Small Accommodation Provider of the Year 2010/11, at the annual presentation lunch held at The Savoy, London.

The award is presented to the small accommodation operation of 10 bedrooms or under,which is considered to have made the most significant achievements and proved mosti nspirational in terms of its green journey during 2010, without all the trappings and resources of big business.

Mrs Stevens was also runner up for Considerate Green Champion Award, just beaten by Debra Patterson of the Savoy Hotel.

Lasswade Country House is not new to awards, having previously won the CHA’s Sustainable Food Award for three years.

Mr and Mrs Stevens established Lasswade Country House in 2001. The Edwardian eight-bedroom hotel with its impressive views, also has two AA Food rosettes.

TheLasswade Country House has been an Eco Tourism Business leader for nine years and won a Green Tourism Business Gold Award in 2010.

The hotel, with panoramic views over the surrounding beautiful countryside, is a long-standing member of Mid Wales Tourism, an independent organisation representing the tourism and hospitality industry in Powys, Ceredigion and Meirionnydd.

Mid Wales Tourism’s chief executive Val Hawkins congratulated Mr and Mrs Steven.“The continued success of Lasswade Country House and Restaurant in these prestigious national awards is great news for not only Llanwrtyd Wells but also Mid Wales as awhole,” she said.

“The region is increasingly gaining recognition for top quality accommodation, locally produced food and high culinary standards.”
