HAVERHILL — John Rogers, a well-known Haverhill police lieutenant and the department's internal affairs investigator, filed for retirement last week as he was facing a restraining order.
Rogers filed for retirement on Wednesday. The next day he was in Newburyport District Court, where he entered a motion to have a restraining order against him removed. The court granted his request.
Several messages left yesterday by an Eagle-Tribune reporter for Rogers were not returned.
No other information about the restraining order was available yesterday at Newburyport District Court because it had been removed, officials there said.
Police officials, including Chief Alan DeNaro and Deputy Chief Donald Thompson, were away from the station yesterday and unavailable for comment.
In his role as police internal affairs investigator, Rogers examined possible wrongdoings by officers in the department. Rogers has a law degree.
Retirement officials said Rogers can expect to receive an annual retirement payment of $38,530, or $3,210 per month. That is based on 41.85 percent of $92,067 — the average of his three highest consecutive years of earnings. His retirement payment is based on a retiree who is age 48, retirement officials said.
Had he retired at age 55, his payments would have been calculated at 58 percent of his three highest consecutive years, officials said. For example, if that average was $92,067, his annual payment would have been $53,398.

If you worked a longer shift than regular 8s, your differential can only go up, not down. So if you start on a Sunday during swing hours you make $1.75 in differential. When your shift carried over into graves you bump up to $2. If your shift continued to carry over into Monday days, you would not drop to 0, but continue to make $2 until your shift has ended and you sign into your next shift. "Alright guys listen up, ya'll have probably heard this before, Jackson vs. Securiplex corporation; I am a private security officer, I have no State or governmental authority. I stand as an ordinary citizen. I have no right to; detain, interrogate or otherwise interfere with your personal property-... basically all that means is I'm a cop." -Officer Ernie I've always been a fan of graveyard differential - the other shifts are generally during waking hours anyway and differential for swing shift is unnecessary. Weekend differential is a bit different - security is a field in which the job itself implies a 24-hour component. The job is what it is; if one can't work weekends it needs to be worked out before the hire date.
