Israeli striker Hemed set for switch to Rangers after snubbing move to Spain

Understands the Maccabi Haifa player has turned down an offer to move to Spain - and has made Govan his preferred choice following talks over the past three days involving the new Ibrox boss and the player's agents.

The 24-year-old has told his employers he doesn't want to sign a new contract to stay in Israel - leaving him within his rights to move immediately to the SPL on a Bosman free transfer.

Now his signature could be wrapped up before the end of the week assuming there are no problems with a medical and a three-year offer liable to be worth around £7,000 per-week.

If the deal is concluded as expected, then Hemed - a former team-mate of Celtic midfielder Beram Kayal - will become the fifth striker at Rangers, alongside Nikica Jelavic, Steven Naismith, Kyle Lafferty and James Beattie.

However, former England cap Beattie, who has a year left on the deal he signed upon arrival from Stoke City, looks surplus to requirements and could be loaned out again after a similar arrangement with Blackpool between January and May.

Meanwhile, McCoist has a meeting with owner Craig Whyte scheduled for Tuesday to discuss the budget for signings and new contracts.

Whyte sent a document to Rangers shareholders last week promising to supply investment at a level of around £5million per season for five years - a pledge he had also made via sources while Sir David Murray was still in power.

He has been offered a new contract by Paisley boss Danny Lennon but could be available at around £200,000.

Another target, Crystal Palace free agent Neil Danns, is due back from holiday in the next 48 hours but rivals Celtic, Hull, Southampton and Leeds are also interested in the 28-year-old midfielder.
