Sunny and hot again for Las Vegas area

Sunny skies and temperatures running a few degrees above normal are heading to the Las Vegas Valley today, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures were starting out this morning in the low 80s and were expected to climb to just above the 105-degree mark this afternoon, the weather service said.

The weather service has issued a fire weather watch for strong winds and low relative humidity for the Las Vegas area from Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday evening. The watch area includes Southern Nevada and northwest Arizona.

Forecasters say an unseasonably strong Pacific storm will approach the northern California coast on Thursday. Ahead of the low pressure area, strong south to southwest winds with low relative humidity values will occur within southern Nevada and northwest Arizona Tuesday afternoon and evening, they said.

Winds will be south to southwest 15 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph. Humidity levels will be between 5 and 12 percent, they said.

Strong winds will continue Wednesday, but temperatures will fall below normal as the Pacific storm moves into Nevada, they said.

Isolated thunderstorms are possible across central Nevada Wednesday, forecasters said. Then very hot conditions appear likely by this weekend as high pressure develops over the desert Southwest, they said.

At 3:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 82 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 75 degrees. The record low was 59 degrees, set in 1941.

Around the valley just before 4 a.m., temperatures were 74 degrees in North Las Vegas, 76 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 80 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 90 degrees by 9 a.m., to 99 degrees by noon and reach a high of 106 degrees by 4 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 102 degrees and the record high was 114 degrees, set in 1977 and 1956.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 105 degrees by 6 p.m., to 99 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 92 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Tuesday's morning low will be 84 degrees and Tuesday's high will climb to 106 degrees, they said.

Not only are these machines, potentially life threatening, but they are chipping away at what little privacy we have left. The scanners produce a naked image for the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) agent to view. Children are not exempt. Passengers can choose to opt out of this security procedure, if they elect to have a thorough pat down.

Well, apparently, they REALLY want people to use these machines, because now they are implementing an even more thorough pat down, for those that choose not use the scanners.This new pat down involves a palms down approach, much like the pat down you would receive if you were arrested.

They are starting the new pat down method at McCarran Airport (Las Vegas) and Logan Airport (Boston). These airports have the most body scanner machines.

I’m going to Las Vegas in a month. I refuse to go through one of these scanners, so I will be receiving the enhanced pat down. I will update this article with details about how it all goes down.
